The Pontiac Phoenix started as a compact, rear-wheel-drive car for the 1977 model year, sharing many of its parts and design with the Chevy Nova. When it was released, it was introduced as an upgrade to the Pontiac Ventura of the time.

The new FWD Phoenix also didn't have any buena ventura. It was somewhat of a turkey.
